I was thinking about my brother sitting and looking at his Mustang when I was younger, it occured to me that he was in a sense bonding with it. How does this play into the bike business?
Well I believe that some time spent looking at your bike is a good thing. It is also a good time to have a soda and may give you some peace from the kids. What it does is stir your soul, making you think of previous rides and rides that you want to take. I know whenever I look at my bike I want to ride it. in some ways there is nothing sadder then a neglegted bike. It cn be like letting part of your soul die.
While you are looking and bonding with your bike does it stir your soul like it did when you first got it? If not is it time for a new bike and perhaps time to pass your current one on to the younger generation. So that they may also experince the wide open places we call home.
All this from just looking at your bike I have not even mentioned the benifits of a detailed inspection does for maintenance issues.
Another perfect weekend day eighty degrees sunshine with a slight breeze! The shop has been very quiet today, I know why. All our friends and customers are out riding. Jealousy may be part of what I am feeling as it is a perfect day to be out riding. As it is a good day to get things done here I am busy making some new countertops, also putting off doing my taxes I can not do that for very much longer.
Enjoy the ride!
Last night in McAllen it was in the forties. As I lay in bed glad I was not out and about, it got me to thinking. The business at the shop has dropped the last few days, this has to be due to the lower temps. I guess it does come down to location, location, location.
I know when I lived in Seattle I rode year around, snow, fog, rain or ice. It may not of been the smartest thing to have done but I did it with a smile on my face to be riding. My exwife however still has not forgiven me for taking her over Snoquamie pass in March thus turning her into a popcicle. The difference between the two of us was only the gear we put on. I was dressed correctly for the weather and she was not.
What this all boils down to is there is no excuse for not riding in the cooler temps, there are some pluses even. ATGATT "All The Gear All The Time" does not dehydrate you right now, you are also much more protected. So get out there and have some fun.
I am sorry as it has been quite a while since I have blogged here. I have been very busy indeed starting my new business RGV DME Repair Center. It is a service shop that works on durable medical equipment from power chairs to lift chairs. This as you may expect has been taking up most of my time, however time does march on and my old responsibilities are still here.
So in saying that winter is now gone and we are seeing a large percentage of our population move back up north. If and when you do go, do not forget us as we look forward to seeing you all next year. Just make sure your bikes are in proper working order, prior to the long ride or storage.
For all of us that live in the valley year around it is time to get out and ride. Just remember that it being tax time everybody has their returns now so all the shops are swamped with work right now. So you will have to wait longer for service. Keep this in mind for next year and plan ahead.
Well it has been a while since I have posted. It has been very busy here with the new business, not to mention it is tax time, our most busy time of the year.
We did manage to find a barn fresh Batavus scooter made in Holland. A 1977 scooter with less then 800 miles. Given Roberts and my Dutch heritage we are very excited. The bike still runs! We both remember them from growing up in Europe. So now the restore parts needed for the bike, so far we have been able to find parts on the internet, I just hope this continues.
